Luxury Weighs In

Can it get more posh than a Malibu spa? Apparently so.

A Brentwood company that already has scored success with its Biggest Loser fitness camps, styled after the hit NBC show, is opening an even pricier line of luxury weight-loss resorts.

Fitness Ridge Worldwide announced last week that it plans to open a Telluride, Colo., resort that will offer smaller classes and nicer accommodations than its Biggest Loser locations.

A weeklong stay at Fitness Ridge Telluride, located within the Peaks Resort and Spa, starts at $3,300 per person for a two-person room. That’s about $1,300 more than a one-week visit to the Biggest Loser resorts in Malibu and Ivins, Utah.

“The wonderful thing about our Biggest Loser Resort brand is that it caters to everybody,” said Chief Executive Larry Bond. “The Fitness Ridge brand is really an outgrowth of our customers and guests asking for a more personalized experience and a higher level of amenities than we can afford to offer for our Biggest Loser customers.”

How personalized? Down to the molecular level.

The price includes nutrition courses, fitness classes, low-calorie meals, access to all of the resort’s amenities – and a DNA test that helps doctors customize fitness plans.

Fitness Ridge plans to open as many as 18 more resorts over the next two years, including another Biggest Loser location to be announced in February.
