Curtain Raiser: Encore Media Partners, a West L.A. marketing services firm, has contracted with the American Film Market scheduled Nov. 2-9 at various Santa Monica locations. Encore will develop a U.S. and foreign marketing strategy for the movie acquisition and distribution market.

Boutique Acquisition: Regal Capital Advisors LLC, a Westwood boutique investment bank specializing in the gaming, lodging and leisure industries, has agreed to be acquired by Macquarie Group Ltd., a Sydney, Australia-based banking services firm. Regal staff will move to Macquarie’s Century City office. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Biopharm Funding: Kite Pharma Inc., a Westwood biopharmaceutical company developing cancer immunotherapies, has raised $15 million in an initial round of financing through a private placement with investors.

DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES

Downtown Outpost: Berkeley Research Group LLC, an Emeryville legal services firm, has opened an office in downtown Los Angeles. The new outpost, at 550 S. Hope St., will be led by BRG Director Walter J. Mix III.

SANTA CLARITA

College Transfer: Animal Behavior College, which offers certificate programs in the categories of dog trainer, pet groomer and veterinary assistant, is moving to Santa Clarita from Northridge. The school plans to hire at least 35 more support staff in the next 12 to 18 months at the new location in the Mann Biomedical Park at 25141 Rye Canyon Loop.

Scooped Up: Pasadena gourmet ice cream maker Choctal Inc., a Pasadena gourmet ice-cream maker, has been acquired by Ben Stanley Holdings, a Fort Lauderdale, Fla., holding company. Ben Stanley, which owns gourmet brand SheerBliss Ice Cream, plans to continue operating Choctal as a separate brand. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
