Commercial Appeal

The folks at Montrose Pet Hospital know the benefits of fame – however fleeting.

The hospital appears in a new national 30-second TV commercial for AT&T after being one of the first businesses to sign up for the carrier’s new wireless service.

Co-owner Dr. Kym Mitchell said publicity from the commercial caused a noticeable spike in visits from pet owners.

“It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. A typical small business could never pay for this kind of advertising,” she said. “Montrose is a small community, and we are the talk of the town.”

The ad shows how veterinarians download X-rays and communicate with office staff on AT&T phones for more efficient care for the menagerie of dogs, birds, snakes, cats and pigs that are treated at the hospital.

Mitchell said some pet owners had been customers where she used to practice, but they didn’t know she had opened a hospital in Montrose until they saw her on TV.

Meanwhile, employees who appeared in the ad have been recognized at local restaurants and stores.

“The effect on morale is great,” said Mitchell.

The hospital closed all day for filming June 14, with AT&T paying the business its projected revenue for the day.
