Radnet Makes Software Acquisition

Diagnostic imaging center operator RadNet Inc. on Monday said that it plans to acquire radiology software developer Image Medical Corp. for more than $10.7 million in cash and promissory notes.

Image Medical is the parent of eRAD Inc., a Greenville, S.C. company that makes picture archiving, communications and other workflow systems for the radiology industry. eRAD has about 30 employees, including a research and development team in Budapest, Hungary.

RadNet has a network of 191 owned and operated outpatient imaging centers. Chief Executive Howard Berger said that the company not only will gain revenue from licensing eRAD’s product to other centers, but should save more than $20 million over the next 10 years by eliminating fees it would otherwise pay to other venders.

“Entering the radiology software business is a significant event for RadNet and a natural extension of our core competencies,” Berger said in a statement. “With today’s announcement, we have positioned ourselves to sell products and services to the over 6,000 freestanding imaging centers and the 10,000 imaging operations within community hospitals across the U.S. that we do not own.”

Shares jumped 22 cents, or 9 percent, to $2.61 on the Nasdaq.
