Response Genetics Inc. said Monday that Thomas Stankovich has resigned as chief financial officer effective April 2 “to pursue other interests.”

The Los Angeles company, which develops diagnostic tests used in cancer treatment, said it has launched a search for a replacement. Eric Alcorn, vice president of finance and administration, will assume Stankovich’s responsibilities in the interim.

Stankovich joined Response Genetics in November 2006. “Tom has played a key role in helping us achieve our current rate of growth,” said Chief Executive Kathleen Danenberg in a press release. “We thank Tom for his counsel and leadership over the years and wish him success in his future endeavors.”

Shares were down 9 cents, or 6 percent, to $1.41 in midday trading on the Nasdaq.
