Labor Mediator Brought In on Boeing Strike

A labor mediator has been summoned to help end a three-week long strike at Boeing’s C-17 plant, bringing new pressure to resolve a stalemate that has shuttered production at Long Beach’s largest private employer.

The Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service, an independent federal agency, has scheduled a Thursday meeting at an undisclosed location in Los Angeles as pressure mounts to end the standoff.

The mediation session is coming after a “clarification” discussion between Boeing and the United Aerospace Workers on Tuesday to “jointly review and discuss the information” of the company’s proposed prescription plan. It was the first time the two sides had met since the strike began May 11.
