Host Will Operate LAX for Another 2 Years

HMS Host International will continue to operate restaurants for another two years at Los Angeles International Airport as officials seek out new concessionaires under a plan approved Monday.

With no discussion, the Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners granted a two-year lease extension to HMS Host, which has maintained some sort of presence at LAX for nearly 50 years. HMS Host may lose its foothold at LAX as airport officials seek out other dining options. Passenger surveys have repeatedly criticized the airport for its poor selection of eateries and shops.

A set of concession contracts covering Terminals 4, 5, 7 and 8 were considered during the summer by the Board of Referred Powers, a special committee made up of five Los Angeles City Council members. The process was bogged down with intense lobbying and allegations by HMS Host of bidding irregularities, leading to the cancellation of one of the deals.
