La Brea culinary institution Pink’s Hot Dogs is expanding again.

A new stand at Universal CityWalk will have its grand opening Monday, complete with a new “naked” dog – just the dog and buns, with no toppings – named after former Golden Girl Betty White.

The stand will be operated by CityWalk but use the same ingredients as the original. It’s the third time in a year the eatery has expanded into a “walk-by situation” that won’t dilute the brand, said co-owner Richard Pink.

Pink’s opened a spot at Knott’s Berry Farm three months ago, at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas nine months ago, and is planning to open one at the Tom Bradley terminal at Los Angeles International Airport in June. Its first expansion was in 2003 at the Hollywood Park Casino in Inglewood.

“We don’t really want to compete with the original Pink’s,” said Pink, whose parents opened the first stand in 1939. “All of these expansions are very recent and we have a very defined criteria. It has to be a location that is different than Pink’s, which really kind of captures people at the site in a high-traffic location.”
