Reason I’m a Lawyer: Clarence Darrow, Daniel Webster, Abraham Lincoln, Atticus Finch; But to make sure before I jumped into law school, I worked as an aide to U.S. Sen. Barbara Mikulski (D-Md.), and was then convinced I had to become a lawyer. While I was on the Hill, I witnessed the Iran-Contra hearings, the Bork hearings and the Clarence Thomas/Anita Hill hearings.

If I Weren’t an Attorney: I would be a therapist; in my line of work, I already am one.

Traveling Man: I travel extensively in pursuit of my passion for photography. I have been dogsledding for a week on the border between Minnesota and Canada. I recently returned from the Himalayas where I trekked with my cameras up to 19,000 feet. I will be headed to Cambodia and Laos in December and Turkey in June. I plan to go to the arctic in search of polar bears.

LAURA A. ZWICKER

, 42

FIRM: Greenberg Glusker

LAW SCHOOL: Indiana University School of Law, Bloomington

CLIENTS: Household names in the entertainment, sports and real estate development industries and high net worth U.S. based and multi-national families

YEARS IN PRACTICE: 18

Reason I’m a Lawyer: After writing my senior thesis on monarchy and symbols of kingship in 17th Century England, I was faced with a choice graduate school and a future of unemployment as the academic market was flooded with Oxbridge graduates, or law school and a future of employment in the legal profession, which my thesis director assured me would turn my brain to cement. I chose to have my brain turned to cement.

Most Challenging Matter: Representing the government of a South American country in planning and drafting a trust and custodial structure for a new national pension system.

Worst Career Moment: Walking alone into a Los Angeles County Assessment Appeals Board hearing as a first year associate to argue a complex Proposition 13 issue for a client, and finding that I was being opposed by three seasoned Assessor’s Office officials. While I prevailed at the hearing, the experience confirmed for me that I did not want to be a litigator.

If I Weren’t an Attorney: I would be a chef.

My Colleagues Don’t Know: I devote my free time to ballet.
