Doug Ring, a well-known Los Angeles attorney and developer of several properties in Marina del Rey, has been found dead in his Brentwood home after an apparent overdose of pain pills, according to police and media reports.

Ring, the 65-year-old husband of former L.A. City Councilwoman Cindy Miscikowski, was found dead late Thursday.

Autopsy results were inconclusive, but police reportedly found pain pills at the scene. Results from toxicology tests will likely take six to eight weeks, officials said. Ring reportedly had suffered from chronic back pain.

Ring’s father was a prominent Westside developer and Ring headed the Ring Group, one of the biggest developers at the marina. His properties there include Bar Harbor Apartments & Anchorage, and he most recently developed the 437-unit Esprit Apartments and Marina.

He served on several city committees over the years and helped organize the rebuilding of the city’s Central Library after a 1986 fire. He promoted expansion of the Museum of Contemporary Arts and establishment of a Children’s Museum in Lake View Terrace.

Ring also was executive director of USC’s Selden Ring Award for investigative journalism, which was endowed by and named after his father.

Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa called Ring a friend and a “philanthropist and civic leader devoted to the City of Angels.”

“Doug sought to improve the lives of all Angelenos, and he will be greatly missed,” Villaraigosa said in a statement.
