Economic Experts Say Valley on the Mend

The San Fernando Valley’s economy has pulled out of recession but is now in a holding pattern that could continue the rest of the year, the head of CSUN’s economic research center said.

Speaking to about 400 local business leaders Wednesday during the fourth annual Valley Economic Summit sponsored by the Valley Economic Alliance, economist William Roberts said the region’s economy is no longer being pulled down by the weight of the real-estate crisis.

While many economists predict the nation’s economic recovery will begin late this year and job growth of 2.5 to 4 percent will take hold in 2010, the Valley could be more fortunate. That’s because it has a broad economic base and home sales are on the upswing, which tends to drive consumer spending.
