Queen Mary Operator Behind on Repairs

The Long Beach City Council will have a chance to weigh in Tuesday on last week’s revelation that the operator of the Queen Mary is behind on its required renovations.

The council will receive an audit by City Auditor Laura Doud that says Save the Queen hasn’t met its first capital expenditures benchmark for the historical ship.

Under an agreement between the city and STQ, the company is to complete $5.3 million in capital improvements on the ship by the end of 2010. In return, the city is waiving the portion of the ship’s rent that is based on a percentage of gross receipts.
