Former Los Angeles City Councilwoman Cindy Miscikowski has been appointed by Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa to the Los Angeles Board of Harbor Commissioners, which governs the Port of Los Angeles.

The appointment comes as the port struggles with declining container traffic volume at the same time it is forcing thousands of truckers to replace their old diesel rigs with cleaner burning new models. The controversial clean air program has been challenged by the trucking industry.

?indy brings passion and dedication to her work for the people of Los Angeles,?said Villaraigosa, in a statement. ?er experience will add great value to our team at the harbor as we continue the work of growing and greening our port, and ensuring that our harbor communities are protected and economically viable for generations to come.?p>Miscikowski represented the 11th District from 1997 to 2005. While on the Council, she served as chairwoman of the Public Safety Committee for and was vice-chair of the Budget and Finance Committee.

She was executive director of the new Skirball Museum and Cultural Center in Brentwood from 1994 to 1995.She also worked for Councilman Marvin Braude, mainly as his chief deputy.
