Film, TV Projects Line Up for Incentives

California’s month-old tax-incentive program appears to be keeping some film and TV productions from fleeing the Golden State, officials said Tuesday.

The California Film Commission, which oversees the program, has allocated nearly $67.5 million in tax credits for 25 film and television productions with a total budget of $347 million. Local business leaders see those numbers translating into jobs for an area hit hard by runaway film production, labor strife and the recession in general.

“The projects that the California Film Commission has estimated (will remain in the state) will provide 6,000 jobs, and hundreds of support businesses will receive business as a result,” said Greg Lippe, chairman of the Valley Industry and Commerce Association.

“And the San Fernando Valley is the largest employer of the film industry in the state. Approximately 60 percent of all L.A. County wages for the film industry happen in the San Fernando Valley.”
