Wayne Kent A. Bradshaw

Chief Operating Officer/President

Broadway Federal Bank, Los Angeles

Appointed this month

Age: 62

Education: Bachelor’s in economics, University of Arizona; M.B.A., USC

Previous Position: Regional president of community and external affairs, Washington Mutual, 5 years

Current Duties: Management of bank’s day-to-day operations

Goal: Strategic growth of the size and profits of the bank in a safe and sound manner.

Challenges: This is a difficult environment in which to balance the conflicting demands of maintaining the level of capital required to remain safe and sound, while addressing the economy’s needs for loans to stimulate the economic recovery.

What’s Wrong With Banking Now: In the balance between fear and greed, fear is playing too large of a role.

What’s Right: This is a very opportune time for the financing of undervalued assets in the anticipation that in the long term the U.S. economic recovery is a safe bet.

I Decided to Be a Banker Because: It allows me to serve people in a manner in which the results are very measurable and tangible.

Best Career Decision: In the past, it was to teach the commercial loan training program at Union Bank; presently, it has been to return to community banking at Broadway.

Worst Decision: Luckily, I have not yet made that. I tend not to have regrets, and to learn from all my experiences.

If I Were Not a Banker I Would Be: A teacher.

My Colleagues Don’t Know: I have a secret desire to be a ski instructor.

Best Advice: Readiness is all.

What I Do for Fun: Lots of family activities and sports.
