Big Stage Entertainment Inc. said Tuesday it has secured $2.7 million in additional funding from its original investors, bringing the total that the media technology company has raised to $10.6 million.

The South Pasadena start-up, which has developed 3-D technology designed to make multimedia game playing more enjoyable, was funded by Mission Ventures, Selby Ventures and TechCoast Angels.

The Series B round remains open for an additional $3.3 million from outside investors until June 8. The funds are to be used to research and development as well as sales and marketing for its so-called “3D photo-real avatar facial modeling” technology.

Big Stage Entertainment’s products enable multimedia game developers to create an animated, 3-D likeness of a user in video games, virtual worlds, Web sites, mobile applications and kiosk systems.
