Northrop Grumman Corp. said Monday it received a $128 million contract from the Army to provide a lightweight laser that will provide soldiers with precision targeting.

The Los Angeles-based defense contractor said its laser gives soldiers the ability to more accurately target enemy positions, day or night and in all battlefield conditions. It also improves targeting abilities for both conventional and global positioning system-guided munitions, it said.

The laser will be made at the company’s Laser Systems facility in Apopka, Fla.

Northrop Grumman shares were down $1.53, or 3 percent, to $55.22 in morning trading on the New York Stock Exchange.
