Edison Profit Slips as Sales Increase

Edison International reported Thursday that first-quarter profit dropped despite a rise in sales.


Edison, the state’s largest electricity provider, reported net income of $299 million (91 cents per share) a 10 percent drop from $333 million ($1) in the same period a year earlier. However, Edison said that last year’s earnings included a gain of $31 million for a resolution of a tax dispute.


Sales for the Rosemead-based utility rose 5.9 percent to $3.08 billion.


Shares in were up 8 cents to $51.27 in early trading Thursday.
