Walt Disney Co. sold its Movies.com Web site to Comcast Corp.’s Fandango Inc. for an undisclosed sum.

The move by Fandango, which sells movie tickets, is part of an effort to expand its audience and advertisers by adding movie reviews and celebrity news found on Movies.com.

The Fandango Web site, which is based in Los Angeles, drew 6.3 million users in May while Movies.com had 1.9 million, according to Fandango. There is little overlap between audiences on the two sites, the company added.

Movies.com, founded in 2000, was previously part of Burbank-based Disney’s Internet group.
