Burkle, Ovitz Settle Dispute

Former Hollywood superagent Michael Ovitz and billionaire investor Ron Burkle settled a lawsuit last weekend involving online business investments, according to Bloomberg News.

A trial had been scheduled for Aug. 4 in Los Angeles Superior Court, where Ovitz’s lawyers were planning to seek millions of dollars in attorney fees, and to end a dispute between the two over an investment in GameSpy Industries, a video game software company.

Calls to Ovitz’s lawyer, Eric George, and Burkle’s lawyer, Russell Sauer, were not immediately returned Friday.

The tangle between Ovitz and Burkle began in 2005, when the supermarket magnate sued Ovitz claiming the two had an oral agreement to offer each other stakes in potential business ventures.

Burkle claimed he invested more than $30 million in two Internet companies, CheckOut.com and TalkCity.com, and Ovitz failed to reimburse half of the money he invested.

In March, a state court judge ruled on Ovitz’s favor, saying Ovitz and Burkle never formed a legal partnership.
