L.A. Public Equity Firms to Collaborate

Los Angeles private equity firm Gores Group on Monday announced a strategic partnership with the Four Star Group to acquire businesses in the aerospace, defense and homeland security sectors.

The Four Star Group, also based in Los Angeles, is comprised of retired U.S. military officers, business executives and investment professionals. Four Star will have representation on the boards of some of the Gores Group’s existing and future portfolio companies to help facilitate growth, the companies said in a statement.

The Four Star Group earlier advised Gores Group, the investment vehicle of billionaire Alec Gores, in its recent acquisitions of Gilat Network Systems and CompuDyne Corp.

Four Star Group principals include: retired Gen. John Jumper, former chief of staff of the Air Force and member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff; retired Gen. Gregory Martin, former commander, Air Force Material Command; retired Gen. Lance Lord, former commander, Air Force Space Command.

The group’s chief executive is William Patton, former member of the Office of the President and chairman of Unisys Corp.’s federal systems division. Senior managing director is Matthew Spain, a former managing director of UBS Investment Bank.
