Northrop Inks IT Deal

Northrop Grumman Corp. said Thursday that it has renewed an IT contract to provide services to the Illinois Department of Human Services for another five years. The deal is worth $64 million.

The Los Angeles-based defense and government contractor was first awarded the contract in 2003 and will continue to provide data processing and network management support, and program management of electronic benefits transfer services for the state’s food stamp and other cash assistance programs.

Northrop began to make a push to expand its presence in the civilian side of contracting, starting a new division at the beginning of 2007 to focus solely on non-defense contracts, such as providing IT services to local and federal government agencies.

Last month, the company named a new chief to head the division, which booked $4.5 billion of Northrop’s $32 billion in reveneus for 2007.

Shares in Northrop were down 1.2 percent to $80 in early trading Thursday on the New York Stock Exchange.
