Heery International, a construction, architecture, interior design and engineering firm, has hired Kenneth F. Fisher Jr. as senior project manager in its Los Angeles office. Fisher previously served as deputy director of the U.S. Army's provincial reconstruction team in Baghdad.


Los Angeles Unified School District has named Michelle King superintendent of Local District 3, which serves the communities of Baldwin Hills, Mar Vista, Playa del Rey, Westchester and Windsor Hills, and the West and Central L.A. regions. King was previously interim chief instructional officer for the district.


Paramount Home Entertainment has hired Gaspare Benso as senior vice president of international finance and planning. Benso previously served as chief financial officer of international studios and digital platforms at NBC Universal.


Diego Alvarez has been named deputy mayor for legislative and intergovernmental relations in Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa's office. Alvarez was previously executive assistant for government relations for Los Angeles World Airports.

Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez (D-Los Angeles) has appointed Dario Frommer to the California Transportation Commission. Frommer is a partner in the Los Angeles office of Mayer Brown, an international law firm.

Scott J. Svonkin was re-elected chairman of the L.A. County Commission on Insurance. Svonkin is president of Svonkin Consulting, a San Gabriel marketing and public affairs firm.

Health Care

City of Hope's in Duarte has named David A. Horne chairman of the division of molecular medicine. Horne is co-director of the center's synthetic and biopolymer chemistry core facility.


Raymond Vermolen has joined Intercontinental Los Angeles in Century City as general manager. Vermolen was previously hotel manager of Intercontinental the Barclay in New York.


Rachelle L. DeGregory has been named chief knowledge officer at the Los Angeles office of international law firm Sheppard Mullin Richter & Hampton LLP. DeGregory was previously director of industry relations at LexisNexis Litigation Services.

Sedgwick Detert Moran & Arnold LLP, a national law firm, has promoted Frederic Grannis and Gary Pancer to partners in its Los Angeles office. Grannis and Pancer were previously attorneys with the firm.

DLA Piper, an international law firm, has promoted Wilbert Watts Jr. to partner in the Los Angeles office. Watts was previously an attorney in the firm's real estate practice group.

Cox Castle & Nicholson LLP, a real estate law firm with offices in Northern and Southern California, has promoted Caroline Dreyfus and Joanna Huchting to partners in its Los Angeles office. Dreyfus and Huchting were previously associates.


Andrea Young has been hired as vice president of business development by Usmp, a Marina del Rey-based marketing agency. Young was previously a senior vice president of sales at Omnicom, a global marketing communications firm.


MySpace has named Jeff Berman executive vice president of marketing and content. Berman was previously general manager of MySpaceTV.

Stephen Nakamura has joined Santa Monica-based Ascent Media Group as vice president of feature services. Nakamura was previously senior digital colorist at Technological Digital Services.


Mel Kohn has been named chairman of the board of FilmL.A. Inc., a non-profit that coordinates permits for filmed entertainment shot on location in L.A. Kohn is managing partner of Kirsch Kohn & Bridge, an Encino-based accounting firm.

Petersen Automotive Museum Foundation, owner of the non-profit museum of automotive education, has appointed Steve E. Young chairman. Young is a partner at Freeman & Smiley LLP, a Los Angeles-based law firm.

Jennifer K. D'Alvarez has been promoted to director of development of
Optimist Youth Homes & Family Services, a non-profit center that assists at-risk youth. D'Alvarez was previously assistant director of development.

Real Estate

Patrick Ortiz has joined the West Los Angeles office of NAI Capital, a commercial real estate brokerage headquartered in Encino, as vice president. Ortiz was previously a broker at Colliers International.

Jones Lang LaSalle, a real estate firm, has hired Anna Langley as vice president and Darrick Yu as analyst in its West Los Angeles office. Langley was previously an associate in the retail group of Eastdil Secured, a real estate company. Yu was previously an analyst at Eastdil Secured.

Paul A. Sablock has joined the downtown Los Angeles office of Jones Lang LaSalle, a real estate money management firm. Sablock previously served as senior vice president in the City of Commerce office of Colliers International, commercial real estate consultants.

David Dillon will receive the Food Industry Executive of the Year award,
presented by the food industry management program at the USC Marshall School of Business. The honor will be awarded at the school's annual graduation banquet in April. Dillon is chairman and chief executive of the Kroger Co., a grocery chain.
