Cheap Dates

L.A.’s nightlife hotspots still plan a festive ringing-in of the new year with special events, but in a concession to concerns about the economy many are offering lower prices to party.

Take, for example, the event at the new Ecco Ultra Lounge on Cahuenga Boulevard hosted by cast members of the MTV reality show “The Hills.” General admission is $80, and access to the VIP casino room is $200. Table packages range from $1,200 to $4,900, depending on the number of guests.

Those prices would be at least 20 percent higher in better economic times.

“We definitely lowered our ticket prices this year because of the state of our economy,” said lounge owner David Stratton.

Likewise, Caf & #233; Was is having two five-course dinner seatings New Year’s Eve ranging from $100 to $200 per person depending on table preference, lower prices than he would’ve asked in different times, said club veteran Ivan Kane, who owns the restaurant.

In keeping with the bistro’s surreal decor, which includes a stairway to nowhere, there is a fully decorated upside-down Christmas tree hanging from the ceiling.

Also, noted chef David Myers’ Sona restaurant is offering dinners from $89 to $125 per person, down from $175 to $275 last year.
