The Walt Disney Co. said Tuesday it is launching a Disney-branded television channel on 30 TV stations in Russia in a joint venture with station owner Media-One Holdings Ltd.

The channel, in which Disney will take a 49 percent stake, will broadcast free-to-air original Russian programming as well as standard Disney Channel fare that is popular in the United States, such as “Hannah Montana” with Miley Cyrus and “The Suite Life of Zack & Cody.”

There are currently 30 Disney Channels worldwide. Many are on cable systems, but another free-to-air channel was launched in Spain in June.
