Emotive Gets Funding, Makes Acquisition

Emotive Communications said Wednesday it completed its second round of venture capital financing. The $6.25 million infusion enabled the Los Angeles mobile entertainment developer to acquire Sennari Entertainment, which makes networked games for cell phones and other mobile devices.

Sennari’s gaming platform will combine with Emotive’s RingJam real-time phone-to-phone capabilities to make entertainment media networking more instantaneous and interactive, the company said. RingJam is in pre-deployment trials with wireless carrier networks in the United States, Spain, Italy and the Philippines.

The second round of funding “is further recognition that Emotive has defined an interesting niche in developing interactive products for media phones and smart networks,” said Chief Executive Anthony Stonefield, in a statement. “The acquisition of Sennari is a strategic move to deepen our expertise and effectiveness in this market.”

Leading the financing was the Mayfield Fund, with follow-on investments by D. E. Shaw Ventures and Bertelsmann Digital Media Investments, a subsidiary of Bertelsmann AG.
