Business software maker Symark International said Monday that John Mutch was appointed chief executive officer.

Mutch most recently was a founder and managing partner of MV Advisors LLC, an investment firm specializing in small and mid-cap technology companies. He had also served as chief executive of Peregrine Systems, where he restructured the company and sold it to Hewlett-Packard for $425 million.

“John Mutch has a proven track record of building and leading successful technology organizations, and we are pleased to have him to help the company continue to thrive,” said Michael Triplett, managing director at Insight Venture Partners, a major Symark investor.

Agoura Hills-based Symark’s software helps companies comply with Securities Exchange Commission, privacy and other federal and industry regulations.
