Activision Inc.’s Chief Executive Bobby Kotick said Tuesday that impending cuts in the cost of the next generation of game consoles will lead to increased sales and revenues for videogame developers.

Kotick said that in addition to sales of the games, “emerging markets,” such as in-game advertising, wireless applications and Internet-based games, should increase the size of the overall market by $6 billion.

Activision has had recent success, planting two games from its wildly successful “Guitar Hero” franchise in the top 10 in sales for August, helping the Santa Monica-based company gain market share on its competitors, Redwood City-based Electronic Arts Inc. and Agoura Hills-based rival THQ Inc.

Shares in Activision gained 1.4 percent, or 29 cents, to $21.09 on Wednesday. Shares are up 23 percent since the end of July.
