John Merhaut has been named regional vice president of the Los Angeles branch of Cal National Bank's Community Banking Group. Merhaut was previously senior vice president and manager of Los Angeles Commercial Banking at City National Bank.


Zula USA LLC, a Burbank-based children's entertainment and education company, has hired Debrah Lederman as vice president of marketing. Lederman was formerly marketing manager of Warner Home Video.


The City of Long Beach has named Erik Sund purchasing agent. Sund was most recently purchasing manager for the City of Downey.

Health Care

Downey Regional Medical Center has promoted Kenneth Strople to president and chief executive. Strople was previously the hospital's executive vice president and chief administrative officer.

Human Resources

Workway, a Burbank-based staffing firm for financial and technical industries, has hired Catherine Anderson as vice president of the firm's commercial division. Anderson was formerly vice president and commercial division manager at Loan Administration Network, a staffing company.

Ron Friedmann has joined Integreon, a Los Angeles-based outsourcing company, as senior vice president of marketing. Friedmann was formerly founder and principal at Prism Legal Consulting Inc., a firm that assists law firms with practice technology.


Levene Neale Bender Rankin & Brill LLP, a Century City-based bankruptcy, insolvency and business reorganization specialist, has named Gil Hopenstand and Kim Tung as associates. Hopenstand was previously an associate at Weinstein Weiss & Ordubegian LLP. Tung was formerly an associate with Danning Gill Diamond & Kollitz LLP.

Kenneth E. Kohler has joined the Los Angeles office of Morrison & Foerster LLP, an international law firm, as corporate securities partner. Kohler was previously a partner in the Los Angeles office of Mayer Brown Rowe & Maw.


The Southern California Broadcasters Association has named Matt Mallon as chairman of the association's general sales managers council. Mallon is general sales manager for KABC (Channel 7).

Jay Milla has been named senior vice president and publisher of the Los Angeles office of Moving Pictures Magazine, a film entertainment quarterly. Milla was most recently publisher of Filmmaker Magazine.


Susan K. Fuentes has been named executive director of the Los Angeles Mission Community Clinic, a non-profit medical center. Fuentes was previously director of nursing with the clinic.

The Los Angeles County Education Foundation, a non-profit organization raising funds to provide children with educational opportunities, has appointed Arthur Zeesman to the board. Zeesman is founder and chief strategist at Zeesman Communications Inc., a Los Angeles-based marketing and advertising agency.

Real Estate

Mark Boutros has been named associate director of the downtown Los Angeles office of Cushman & Wakefield, an international real estate services firm. Boutros was most recently an associate at Grubb & Ellis, a real estate services firm.

Carolyn Suminski has joined the Manhattan Beach office of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage as branch training director. Suminski was formerly branch training director and sales associate at Re/Max, a real estate franchise network.

Rexford Industrial LLC, a Los Angeles-based industrial real estate firm, has named Christina Flor property manager, Carl M. Franklin director of construction management, Mark Hereford director of operations and Shanda Ross assistant controller of finance and construction. Flor was previously commercial portfolio manager with Moss & Co. in Sherman Oaks. Franklin was vice president of project and development services with Jones Lang LaSalle in Los Angeles. Hereford was regional leasing manager for the Abbey Co. in Long Beach. Ross was senior development accountant and assistant controller for Watt Genton Associates LP in Santa Monica.


Jeremy P. Dicker was awarded $10,000 by the Northwestern Mutual Foundation for his work with Junior Achievement of Southern California. Dicker is a founding principal of Strategic Benefits Group LLC.

David Merrell was named event designer of the year and Ruth Moyte was named planner of the year at the 2007 Even Solutions Spotlight Awards. Merrell is president and creative director of AOO Events, an event design and production firm. Moyte is vice president of production at Extraordinary Events, an international event planning and production firm.

Merrill Lynch has awarded Paul Wetmore the David Brady Award, named for a Merrill Lynch employee who died in the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center. Wetmore is a financial advisor at Merrill Lynch's Los Angeles office.
