Northrop Grumman Corp. said Monday that it was awarded a $220 million contract to develop a data management and storage system for the National Security Agency.

The Los Angeles-based government contractor said the 51-month contract is an effort to help modernize the intelligence organization’s capabilities by providing uniform access to data collected by the U.S. Defense Department and intelligence agencies, Northrop said in a statement.

Northrop’s partners on the contract include BAE Systems Plc and International Business Machines Corp.

Shares in Northrop were down 17 cents to $79.08 in afternoon trading Monday on the New York Stock Exchange.
