Walt Disney Co. will offer an online, multiple-player game based on its "Pirates of the Caribbean" franchise.

Bloomberg News reports that a portion of the Internet-based game will be free with unlimited access costing $9.95 per month.

The Burbank-based entertainment company said it originally wanted the release of the game to coincide with the opening of the third film, which opened in May. But instead, Disney extended testing on the game for five months.

Shares in Disney closed up 1 percent, or 34 cents, to $34.63 in trading Wednesday on the New York Stock Exchange
