Hot Topic’s Same-Store Sales Dip

Shares in Hot Topic Inc. fell more than 5 percent Thursday after the retailer posted a dip in same-store sales.


Hot Topic reported a first quarter loss of $809,000 (-2 cents per share), a 42 percent improvement on the loss of $1.4 million (-3 cents) the company posted for the same period a year earlier. The numbers were in line with Wall Street’s expectations.


Sales for the City of Industry-based teen clothing retailer were up 2 percent to $157 million, but were hurt by a 2.3 percent dip in same-store sales.


Shares in Hot Topic were down 5.1 percent, or 59 cents, to $11.02 in afternoon trading Thursday on the Nasdaq.
