ESPN’s Cell Service on Verizon

Beginning today, ESPN’s MVP wireless sports service will be available exclusively on Verizon Communication’s network.

The service will offer Verizon V-Pak plan subscribers up-to-date game statistics and access to fantasy sports leagues via their cell phones. The service will cost an additional $15 per month, according to a statement form ESPN parent the Walt Disney Co.

The plan will also include video and Web access as well as imbedded ads in the service’s video clips and sports data. No financial terms of the deal were disclosed.

ESPN, which attempted last year to sell the mobile-phone service it created, shuttered the venture in December and took a $30 million loss. The Verizon plan includes nearly all of the features originally offered on the ESPN’s original service.

Shares of Disney were off 5 cents to $35.89 in afternoon trading Wednesday on the New York Stock Exchange
