When Natalie Willes applied to live in Mozaic, a new apartment complex next to Union Station, she went through the usual routine: tour, reference list and credit check, the Downtown News reports.


But there was one deciding factor she couldn’t control: How well her dog, Nacho, would fare in his interview with the property manager.


“I think she was kind of freaked out and she got really quiet,” Willes said about her diminutive Chihuahua terrier mix’s interview. “But they just wanted to make sure she was a nice dog. They picked her up and gave her a treat.”


Luckily, Nacho made the cut.


In a town that has literally gone to the dogs – a recent demographic study found about 18% of new residents own one – it should be little surprise that pups are being given the same treatment as their owners.
