Northrop Adds Boeing to Bid

Northrop Grumman Corp. will add rival Boeing Co. to the team that bidding for the U.S. Army’s Integrated Air and Missile Defense Battle Command System program.


The announcement by the Los Angeles-based contractor comes less than a week after Chicago-based Boeing relegated Northrop to a secondary on a reorganized Boeing-led team that will bid next month for a subcontractor roll on the Ares-I rocket, which could be worth hundreds of billions of dollars.


The two companies are also on competing ends of a multi-billion contract to build the next generation of tankers for the U.S. Air Force.


The Integrated Air and Missile Command System program is an Army modernization program to set up a “network-centric, system-of-systems solution” that will integrate sensors, soldiers, battle management command and intelligence systems for Army air and missile defenses,” according to a Northrop release. The Army is expected to begin accepting proposals by mid-year.

Northrop shares were up14 cents to$74.11 in afternoon trading Wednesday on the New York Stock Exchange.
