Janice Angell has joined Grant Thornton LLP, an accounting, tax and business advisory organization, as senior manager in the Woodland Hills office. Angell was formerly a senior tax manager with UHY Advisory NY Inc., a tax and business consultant company.

Gorilla Nation, an online advertising firm based in L.A., promoted Brad Agens to vice president of sales; Lance Wolder to senior account executive; Jessica Fong and John "JR" Hoffman to strategic account managers; and Teresa Huang to sales and marketing manager. Agens was director of national sales; Wolder was account executive; Fong and Hoffman were sales planners; and Huang was assistant sales and marketing associate.

Buchanan Street Partners, a real estate investment bank, has hired Kathleen Briscoe as executive vice president and partner of its Los Angeles office. Briscoe was most recently executive vice president at Lowe Enterprises Investors and head of acquisitions/portfolio management for Lowe Real Estate Income and Growth Fund.

AFA Financial Group LLC, a Calabasas financial services broker-dealer, has hired Erin J. Neil as vice president of alternative investments. Neil was most recently product support manager and due diligence officer for First Allied Securties.

Alvarez & Marsal, a management consulting firm, has hired Stan Speer as managing director in Los Angeles. Speer was previously chief financial officer for Cadiz Inc., a real estate and water resource management company, and its subsidiary, Sun World International, an agricultural company.

GSN, an entertainment company providing interactive game programs, has hired Chad O'Hara as executive director of business and legal affairs. O'Hara was formerly an associate at Los Angeles law firm Leopold Petrich & Smith.

Starz Media LLC, a programming production and distribution company, named Marc Barson to deputy general counsel at the company's Burbank office. Barson was vice president of business affairs and production for Starz Entertainment, a division of Starz Media, and will retain that role and title.

Michaela Pereira and Barbara Moore have been named co-chairs of the advisory board at Optimist Youth Homes & Family Services, a Los Angeles treatment and education center for severely at-risk youth. Pereira is currently co-anchor for the "KTLA Morning Show". Moore is president of Palos Verdes Intermediate School PTA and a board member of the National Charity League.

William J. Chadwick has been elected chairman of Exposition Park and California Science Center. Chadwick is currently managing director of Chadwick Saylor & Co., a real estate investment bank.

The Library Foundation of Los Angeles has appointed Jeffrey Burbank as director, communications and marketing. Burbank was previously with Northrop Grumman Corp., a global defense and technology company, managing employee communications.

Public Relations
Davies, a public affairs firm specializing in real estate, health care and energy, has promoted Brandon Edwards to president and chief operating officer and Robb Rice to executive vice president. Edwards and Rice were previously senior executives.

Chris Harahan has been elected a shareholder of Lowe Enterprises Inc., a real estate management, investment and development firm. Harahan is vice president of Lowe Enterprises Investors, a division of Lowe Enterprises Inc.

The Bond Cos., a real estate developer, has hired Christopher E. Pine to be senior vice president. Pine was formerly vice president of real estate for Whole Foods Market.

Adam I. Knowlton has been named as senior vice president and general counsel at Younan Properties Inc., a real estate investment group. Knowlton was previously a partner at Los Angeles law firm Freeman Freeman & Smiley.

Ramsey-Shilling Commerical Real Estate Services has promoted Glenn Melnick to vice president. Melnick was formerly a senior associate.

Robeks Corp., a retail smoothie and juice franchising company based in Manhattan Beach, has appointed Brian Tademy as vice president of marketing and Larry Hohl as vice president of operations. The company also has named Sheri Miksa to the board. Tademy was most recently field marketing director of the Denny's restaurant chain, Hohl was interim vice president of operations and Miksa remains president and chief executive of the company.

Macerich, a Santa Monica-based owner and operator of shopping malls, has hired Tony Grossi as chief operating officer. Grossi was most recently chief operating officer of Cadillac Fairview, a Canadian real estate organization.

Ed Ansett has joined the board of Pentadyne Power Corp., a manufacturer of clean energy storage systems. Ansett is currently managing director of EYP Mission Critical Facilities Ltd., a consulting engineering firm.

Trend Offset Printing, a Los Alamitos-based commercial printer manufacturer, has hired Tom Denton as executive vice president of sales and marketing. Denton was recently a solutions sales manager at Kodak/Creo, a digital workflow and computer-to-plate imaging company.
The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants awarded KPMG Forensic Practice Leader Ron Durkin the first Fraud and Litigation Services Lifetime Achievement Award for his work instructing CPAs.
The American Association of Political Consultants inducted Cerrell Associates Inc. founder and chairman Joseph R. Cerrell into its hall of fame during a ceremony in Miami. Cerrell founded Cerrell Associates Inc. after serving on John F. Kennedy's campaign team in the 1960s and served as both president and chairman of the AAPC.

Pepperdine Law School gave 2007 Nobel Laureate Dr. Muhammed Yunus the Social Entrepreneur of the Year award for his microcredit work with Grameen Bank.

Fabian Geyrhalter was featured on the cover of Graphic Design USA's People to Watch in 2007 issue. Geyrhalter operates his own design studio, Geyrhalter Design, in Santa Monica.

The Wade F.B. Thompson Matching Grant matched $775,000 in private donations to the Prostate Cancer Foundations to raise $1.5 million for prostate cancer research.

The Glendale Community Foundation gave a $10,000 grant to the Glendale Adventist Medical Center to build a fourth floor family waiting room in the hospital's west tower. The room will honor Tom Miller, who was the executive director of the Glendale Community Foundation for 18 years.
