Mattel Inc. extended its partnership with Time Warner Inc. to produce toys based on the array of DC Comics characters.

El Segundo-based Mattel will have access to more than 1,000 of the characters as part of the multiyear deal, Warner Bros. Consumer Products said Friday in a statement.

Mattel added that it also plans to create a DC Superheroes-branded section in retailers’ toy aisles. The deal covers all past and future films as well as animated features.

No financial terms of the deal were disclosed.

Shares in Mattel were up 29 cents, or 1.2 percent, to $25.49 in afternoon trading Friday on the New York Stock Exchange.
