A subcontractor working for Occidental Petroleum Corp. was killed and seven other workers were injured after a man shot at them as they arrived in Yemen.

Bloomberg News reported that the shooting occurred about 8:15 a.m. Yemen time Saturday as a charter flight landed at the company’s base camp.

The man killed was a non-American foreign national subcontractor while the injured were a mix of Occidental employees and subcontractors, Bloomberg said. The identities or nationalities of the victims were not released and details about the possible motive behind the shooting wasn’t known.

The U.S. Embassy canceled all travel in central Yemen after the incident and warned American citizens to be vigilant when traveling in the country. Occidental is one of the most active oil companies in Yemen with interests in five “production blocks,” throughout the country.

Shares in Occidental were down 35 cents to $58.45 in afternoon trading Monday on the New York Stock Exchange.
