State Budget Clears Assembly

Following a marathon floor session, the state Assembly adopted a $103 billion state spending plan early Friday after Democrats agreed to shift more than $1 billion from local transit agencies for other purposes and approve a handful of business tax credits to reach a compromise with minority Republicans, the Sacramento Bee reports.


California’s budget now heads to the Senate, where the Democratic leader expressed outrage that his party members would readily give “Hollywood movie moguls” and “multi-national corporations” millions in exemptions while surrendering teacher tax credits. The upper house scheduled a floor vote at 9 a.m.


“We cannot continue to fund education, higher education and crucial human services issues, such as the in-home supportive services program, childcare, or funding for the aged, blind and disabled by providing tax give-aways,” Perata wrote to Assembly Speaker Fabian N & #250; & #324;ez.
