Former AdWeek Editor Kerry Dies at 89

Lee Kerry, former editor of L.A.-based advertising trade publication AdWeek/West died Sunday of a massive stroke. He was 89.


Kerry was born in Brooklyn on Feb. 21, 1917 and moved to Los Angeles in 1953. He had appearing in several Broadway musicals and worked as a columnist writing about Phoenix’s nightlife for the Phoenix Gazette. He also was a sportscaster for Phoenix’s first television station, KPHO, and hosted a morning radio show called “Breakfast with the Kerrys” with his wife Jean, who died in 1954.


After 25 years at AdWeek/West, Kerry remained as an editor-at-large after he retired and wrote interview columns for the publication. He left Los Angeles in 2003 to return to Phoenix with second wife, Bette, who passed away last year.


He will be buried in March at Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills. He is surved by a daughter, Marianne “Ozzie”, and a granddaughter.
