F.Y.E. Opens Former Tower Local

The beat goes on at Tower Records’ former Torrance location as F.Y.E. assumes the record retailer’s former headquarters, the Daily Breeze reports.

The longtime music retail chain closed its stores nationwide in December as part of a companywide liquidation.

On Feb. 1, music store F.Y.E. opened in the Torrance building left vacant by Tower, at 22135 Hawthorne Blvd. It is the South Bay’s first F.Y.E.

“We’re always looking for good locations,” said John Sullivan, chief financial officer of Trans World Entertainment Corp., owner of F.Y.E. and other music stores. “This one happened to come up because of the Tower liquidation.”

Competition from Internet retailers such as Amazon.com and the growing popularity of legal music downloads has forced Tower and many other music stores to close.

Albany, NY-based Trans World has responded to the changing music retail scene by expanding its footprint.
