DirecTV Buys DVR Maker

DirecTV Group Inc. said Wednesday that it agreed to buy most of the assets of ReplayTV from D & M; Holdings Inc. to gain patents for manufacturing digital video recorders.


Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. With the acquisition, El Segundo-based DirecTV a cache of patents and pending applications from Replay, which was a pioneer in developing DVRs, DirecTV said. D & M; is based in Kawasaki, Japan and is 49-percent owned by buyout firm Ripplewood Holdings LLC.


Shares in DirecTV closed down 4 cents to $23.99 in afternoon trading Thursday on the New York Stock Exchange.
