Amgen Postpones Irish Plant

Amgen Inc. will delay development of its $1.1 billion manufacturing plant in Cork, Ireland, by two years, according to a Tuesday report in the Irish Examiner.

The plant was due to open in 2010 and is expected to create 1,100 jobs, but now will not begin operating until 2012 at the earliest due to the construction delay, the Examiner report said.

The article did not cite a reason for the delay, though it maintained the Thousand Oaks company remained committed to the plant. Amgen did not immediately return calls to the Business Journal seeking comment.

Shares in Amgen were up 41 cents to $55.96 in afternoon trading Tuesday on the New York Stock Exchange.
