According to preliminary calculations, the Dow Jones industrial average added 5.13, or 0.04 percent, to 11,469.28, having changed direction several times during the session. The Standard & Poor’s 500 index was up 2.24, or 0.17 percent, at 1,313.25, and the Nasdaq composite index picked up 12.54, or 0.57 percent, to 2,205.70.
