Enova Systems said Monday that it has partnered with Conway, Ark.-based IC Corp. to provide hybrid drive systems for a new line of fuel-efficient commercial buses.

The new buses were introduced last week in Chicago and are expected to improve fuel economy by up to 100 percent. The technology allows the systems to be installed on buses not originally designed to be hyrbrids, and can be use on assembly lines or after a bus is fully manufactured, the Torrance-based company said.

“Our unique Post Transmission System offers customers a non-invasive solution to enter the hybrid vehicle market in either the retrofit or new vehicle segment,” ” Mike Staran, a spokesman for Enova said. “Being the only supplier of this technology offers us and our customers a tremendous competitive advantage.”

IC Corp. said it plans to make approximately 18,000 of the hybrid busses this year. IC and Enova also partnered on a program that brought 19 hybrid school buses to a handful of states earlier this year.

Shares in Enova were flat at $4.80 in early trading Monday.
