Carriage Services Inc., a Houston-based funeral service provider, is moving into the Southern California market with its acquisition of a Camarillo funeral home.

Carriage is buying Conejo Mountain Funeral Home and Memorial Park, which performs roughly 275 funeral services and 390 interments annually. No details were provided of the acquisition, expected to close in the first quarter of 2007.

Carriage is one of a handful of publicly traded funeral service providers and operates 131 funeral homes in 27 states and 28 cemeteries in 11 states.
