Herbalife to Move Downtown

Herbalife Ltd. is moving to downtown Los Angeles in a boost to the L.A. Live development next to the Staples Center.

The company will move its headquarters from Century City when construction on the downtown project is completed in early 2008. The 10-year lease deal at the 4-million square foot mixed use development calls for the weight loss and nutritional products company to occupy 60,000 square feet in a five-story office building.

“This is terrific,” said John McAniff, a managing director with Jones Lang LaSalle Inc., a real estate services firm with a presence downtown. “It’s further validation of downtown.”

Herbalife did not return calls seeking comment. However, the company is not expected to move its other local operations in Torrance and Carson.

The $2.5 billion L.A. project, being developed by billionaire Philip Anschutz’s AEG, will feature a variety of offerings from restaurants and office space to broadcast studios and concert space.

The value of the lease deal was not disclosed.
