Defensive activity in the U.S. options market is on the rise suggesting investors are increasingly worried about the potential for further losses in U.S. stocks as they grapple with economic data showing the pace of inflation quickening.


The demand for options, for example, has sent the options market fear gauge, the Chicago Board Options Exchange’s Market Volatility Index, surging more than 13 percent to 15.17 on Wednesday.
