Napster Inc.

reported a fourth-quarter net loss of $4.4 million (-10 cents per share) compared with $24.3 million (-60 cents) a year ago. Net revenues rose 54 percent to $26.8 million. The number of premium subscribers rose 54 percent from a year ago to 547,000. Total subscribers were 606,000, including college students who buy under a bulk plan. The company last month had raised its sales forecast to $26 million for the quarter when the company said it attracted more subscribers than expected. Analysts had expected a 35-cent loss on sales of $25.3 million. Fiscal year net revenue was $94.7 million, with a net loss of $54.9 million ($1.28).






Global ePoint Inc.

reported first-quarter net loss of $2.2 million (-14 cents per share) compared with loss of $2.2 million (-17 cents) a year ago. Revenues for the City of Industry-based maker of digital video surveillance systems rose 33 percent to $7.3 million. The larger net loss was due to increased investments in the company’s digital technology and aviation divisions, the company said, in addition to higher costs associated with being a public company. Sales increased 33.6 percent as revenue from its Global AirWorks Aviation division increased 285 percent.






Hot Topic Inc.

reported a first-quarter net loss of $1.4 million (-3 cents per share) compared with net income of $5 million (11 cents) a year ago. Net sales for the City of Industry-based clothing retail chain 3 percent to $154 million. Comparable store sales decreased 9.6 percent.

Prospect Medical Holdings Inc.

reported second-quarter net income of $1.2 million (15 cents per share) compared with $922,000 (11 cents) a year ago. Revenues for the Culver City-based provider of medical care to HMO enrollees, particularly those Medicare and Medi-Cal programs, rose 6 percent to $34.6 million.






Natrol Inc.

reported first-quarter net income of $73,000 (1 cent per share) compared with a net loss of $592,000 (-4 cents) a year ago. Revenues for the Chatsworth-based nutritional supplements maker fell 4 percent to $17 million. Gross shipments of the Natrol and Laci Le Beau brands grew 5.4 percent, but overall sales declined due mainly to a reduction in shipments of Prolab products and contract manufacturing.






OSI Systems Inc.

reported third-quarter net income of $1 million (6 cents per share) compared with a net loss of $2.9 million (-18 cents) a year ago. Revenues for the Hawthorne-based maker of security and inspection

systems, medical monitoring and anesthesia delivery products rose 15 percent to $108.1 million. The security business had record revenues of $36.4

million and achieved profitability, the company said.






LJ International Inc.

reported first-quarter net income of $322,000 (2 cents per share) compared with $249,000 (2 cents) a year ago. Revenues for the Los Angeles- and Hong Kong-based jewelry company rose 39 percent to $24.16 million. The quarter represented the first significant test of its China retailing operation, ENZO, which resulted in start-up costs that lowered net income.






Daily Journal Corp.

reported first-quarter net income of $449,000 (31 cents per share) compared with $662,000 (46 cents) a year ago. Revenues rose the Los Angeles-based legal newspaper chain fell 2 percent to $8,343,000.
