Ahold Fourth-Quarter Profit Drops

Royal Ahold NV said Wednesday its fourth-quarter profit plunged 86 percent and it was abandoning its financial targets for this year because of stronger than expected competition and weak performances in its U.S. supermarket chains.


The company, one of the world’s largest food retailers and food service companies, also said that next week it will name a new chief executive of the Stop & Shop and Giant-Landover operations.
